The launch night attracted 2.03m (10.2%) from 9pm - drawing similar numbers to last year's Big Brother premiere - with 707k (5.7%) sticking around afterwards for Bit on the Side.
The finale of BBC One's From There to Here earned 3.18m (15.2%) in the 9pm hour. Earlier, Food Inspectors had 2.29m (11.2%).
On BBC Two, Great British Menu cooked up 1.74m (9.8%) from 7pm before Springwatch managed 2.11m (10.3%). Springwatch Unsprung 2014 aired between 9pm and 9.30pm to 1.29m (6.1%), and Burning Desire: The Seduction of Smoking had 541k (2.8%).
ITV's Life of Ryan: Caretaker Manager - which focused on Ryan Giggs's four matches in charge at Manchester United - appealed to 1.73m (8.2%) from 9pm.

Elsewhere, Channel 4's Comedy Gala averaged 1.63m (9.8%) between 9pm and 11.40pm.
On the multichannels, The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother entertained 1.32m (6.7%) and 760k (3.6%) from 8pm and 8.30pm respectively on E4.
BBC Four's How the Wild West Was Won with Ray Mears took 930k (4.5%) from 9pm.
