With the myriad of posts from friends and pages, Save is intended as an area to catch up on items of interest such as links, places, movies, TV and music when you have the time.
Save will essentially work like bookmarks for everything on Facebook - it only works when users are connected to the internet and does not save content offline.
All saved items are organised by category and will be added to a new section under the 'More' tab on mobile, as well as a sidebar link on Facebook for desktop.
It is also possible to share the saved pieces with friends or archive them.
"Every day, people find all sorts of interesting items on Facebook that they don't have time to explore right away," Facebook software engineer Daniel Giambalvo said in a blog post.
"Now you can save items that you find on Facebook to check out later when you have more time."
Save will be available on iOS, Android and the web over the next few days.
