Perry - who will perform her single 'Roar' at the awards do - in shown journeying through Brooklyn with a group of followers in the newly released teaser.
The Beastie Boys' 'No Sleep till Brooklyn' plays over the preview, in a nod to this year's ceremony taking place at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn.
Perry will be joined by Kanye West in this year's MTV Video Music Awards lineup. Lady Gaga is also debuting her new single 'Applause' on the live telecast.
Daft Punk have been rumoured to be making a surprise appearance as well.
The MTV VMAs 2013 will take place for the first time in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Centre on Sunday, August 25 from 9pm ET.
