'Bates Motel' season two adds 'Grey's Anatomy' villain Michael O'Neill

Bates Motel has cast Michael O'Neill in its upcoming second season.

The veteran character actor will play the father of murdered teacher Miss Watson (Keegan Connor Tracy), TVLine reports.

His character Nick is described as "smart" and "ruthless" and could pose a threat to Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore), who appeared to kill Miss Watson in season one's finale.


O'Neill has made guest appearances in such series as NCIS, Fringe, The Mentalist, The West Wing and 24. He memorably played a mass-murdering gunman in the season six finale of Grey's Anatomy.

The 66-year-old joins Michael Vartan (Alias), Kenny Johnson (The Shield) and Rebecca Creskoff (Hung) as new cast additions for season two of Bates Motel.


The series will return to A&E for a new ten-part run in 2014, with its first season due to make its UK premiere on the Universal channel from Thursday, September 12 at 9pm.
