Clooney and Bullock star as two astronauts stranded in space after their shuttle is hit by debris in the Alfonso Cuaron thriller.
Speaking at the post-film press conference about the demanding role of Dr Ryan Stone, Bullock explained: "Physically and mentally it was the craziest, most bizarre, challenging thing. But you find what you're made of."
The 49-year-old Heat actress had previously told Digital Spy about the part: "I wanted her to look as though she's trying to do everything she can to remove anything that would remind her of what she once was, which was a mum. I wanted the body to look almost androgynous."

Yesterday, the Hollywood pair arrived at the festival for the film's photocall with director Cuaron, which kick-started the prestigious 11-day festival.
