The claim follows suggestions earlier this week that Ian McDiarmid will return to the franchise as Senator Palpatine in "Sith Ghost" form.
According to Latino Review , sources have confirmed that McGregor will appear as a Force Ghost in the Disney feature, which is scheduled for a 2015 release.
Obi-Wan's ghost featured in the original Star Wars trilogy and was played by the late Alec Guinness.
It has been suggested that Abrams may use CGI to place McGregor into past footage featuring Guinness, mirroring the way Hayden Christensen was included in Return of the Jedi.

Last year, McGregor told Digital Spy that he would be happy to return to the franchise if he was needed, but said he knew "nothing about" the production.
Latino Review also claims that the 42-year-old would like to star in a standalone Obi-Wan Kenobi film, after Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed last year that a number of character features will be shot between the final films of the franchise.
