Although the photograph does not officially confirm that the iPhone 5S will feature fingerprint recognition, the feature has been rumoured for inclusion in iOS devices for some time.
Apple gave rise to such speculation when it completed an acquisition of mobile security firm AuthenTec, which holds an array of fingerprint recognition patents.
The Cupertino firm recently announced a press conference for September 10, where the iPhone 5S is expected to be unveiled alongside the budget iPhone 5C.
Digital Spy will be covering the product launch in its entirety live from 5pm UK time next Tuesday.
