James Arthur apologises for using homophobic slur: 'I'm deeply sorry'

James Arthur has apologised for using a homophobic slur in a Twitter rant earlier this week.

The X Factor winner argued with unknown rapper Micky Worthless on the social networking site, after he criticised Arthur's decision to enter the ITV singing competition.

Arthur responded to the comments in a rap, which included the lyric, "You f**king queer".

The singer was criticised by Matt Lucas and Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard for his use of homophobic language.

Arthur continued that he has many "gay friends", including his former X Factor co-star Rylan Clark. He added that Micky Worthless also used similar slurs towards him.

Later, Arthur explained that the term has come to mean something "completely different" in the context of rap.

He also responded directly to Lucas's comments, saying that he has always "admired" the Little Britain star's work.

Arthur concluded: "Learnt a lot this year. Hurt a lot this year. F**ked up a lot this year. Loved a lot this year. Lost a lot this year. Roll on 2014. #LOVE"

The star has continued his ongoing feud with fellow X Factor winner Matt Cardle, mocking his recent sales figures and claims that he is 'still around'.

Cardle previously described Arthur as a person, adding: "The guy's ego is off the scale and that's all I'll say about him."
