BBC, ITV to split coverage of FIFA World Cup 2014 - full details

The BBC and ITV are to split the coverage of next year's FIFA World Cup football matches.

In a press release sent today (December 10), the broadcasters confirmed that they would be dividing the matches for the 2014 tournament, held in Brazil next summer.

ITV will show the opening match between hosts Brazil and Croatia on June 12, while the BBC will start with Spain v Holland the following day.


England's first group match, where they will play Italy, is to be broadcast by the BBC.


The BBC will have first pick of the round of 16 and semi-finals, whilst ITV has first pick of the quarter-finals.


Both ITV and the BBC will show the final.
