Grand Theft Auto 5 wins top prize at Spike's VGX 2013 Awards

Grand Theft Auto 5 has been crowned Game of the Year at Spike's VGX 2013 Awards.

Rockstar Games' crime sequel edged out BioShock Infinite, Super Mario 3D World, The Last of Us and Tomb Raider to take the top prize at the event.

The Last of Us was named as Best PlayStation Game, while its developer Naughty Dog took the gong for Best Studio, and its voice cast was also honoured.

Best Xbox Game went to Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Super Mario 3D World went home with Best Nintendo Game, and Gone Home won Best PC Game and Best Independent Game.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds bagged Best Handheld Game, while Plants vs. Zombies 2 came away with Best Casual Game.

Other winners included BioShock Infinite in the Best Shooter Category, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag for Best Adventure Game, Injustice: Gods Among Us for Best Fighting Game, and NBA 2K14 in the Best Sports Game category.
