The fashion designer said that he thought the experience "would be a bit of a romp", with people cooking food for the campmates and nights in hotels.
He explained: "I have watched the show before but I thought the whole thing was staged, I didn't think they were going off to a hotel every night but I didn't imagine we'd be sleeping under the stars!
"I had no idea about the hunger, I thought people brought in food and cooked it for you, I just thought this would be a bit of a romp."
Emmerdale actress Lucy Pargeter said: "I knew it was going to be hard but my biggest fear was the people ...In previous series there were such massive personalities in here arguing and stuff.
"Camp life has been harder than any of the trials."
Meanwhile, Kian Egan revealed that the experience has made him realise that he takes things for granted in his life.
"We've all learned what we take for granted in the outside world from things like salt and pepper to heating, hot water, dry clothes and other everyday things," he said.
"We just don't need to live our lives in the way that society dictates and the only thing we need to worry about are our families."
Emanuel said that he now understands the community spirit of wartime London after living in camp on basic rations.
"We are thrown in here not knowing each other and when you scratch the surface of someone you realise we are all the same.
"I can now understand the spirit of the war when London was bombed and communities got together and helped each other because it is a time of crisis.
"I couldn't have wished for two nicer campmates to be here with because we've stuck together as a team and it's so nice we've come this far."
