The Voice: Vicky Jones, Myles Evans - Who had the best audition?

We're into week three of the blind auditions, and the talent just keeps on coming. Well, when everyone isn't fluttering about Tom Jones's sex bomb nature ("You need all those girls to balance your testosterone" "Yeeeeeeahhh!"), or polishing their buttons, or laughing at Will saying "blokes" or, in the case of Tom, stating the bleeding obvious: "I think each coach wants to get the best team. I mean, that's why we're here." That is true, and we got six new acts added to the coaches' teams this week, but who really blew us away? Read on for our rankings...

1. Myles Evans

Song: 'High Hopes' / Coach: Ricky Wilson

You know what? Sometimes, it's not all about "the voice". We're not sure that Myles was technically the best singer of the night, but for some reason his quiet, unassuming sweet personality really stuck with us. He only agreed to audition on the urging of his sister Davida ("I'm going through chemotherapy, it's the perfect time to use emotional blackmail to get him to do it," she said, winningly) and had never sung in public, but we found ourselves captivated by his husky tone and understated demeanour, and actually, we think he has a great recording voice. Ricky was won over by his "emotional power" despite his nerves, and Myles ended up on his team. We're very pleased - that confidence boost could do him wonders.

2. Leverne Scott-Roberts

Song: 'Explosions' / Coach: Sir Tom Jones

Ex-girlband member Leverne - who quit when she fell pregnant and is now a single mum to four boys - did one thing so right: song choice. Her decision to sing 'Explosions' was a brilliant one - it really showcased her haunting vocals and what Kylie and Ricky agreed was a "pure" tone. It gave us shivers even though it was a bit rough around the edges, so once she gets those nerves out of the way we think Leverne could be a bit special. All four coaches clearly thought so, too, since they all turned - and Will in particular put in a great pitch ("I thought you sounded like a little angel - I didn't want to waste any time, I wanted to see what fell out of the sky.") In the end, though, Leverne went for Sir Tom, who was impressed that she was so natural ("She didn't try to make us turn around - she just sang it.") One to watch out for.

3. Iesher Haughton

Song: 'Who's Loving You' / Coach: will.i.am

Iesher got a great reaction from the coaches with her take on 'Who's Loving You', and her unusual voice at the beginning of the song got Will's attention right away. She actually wasn't really our cup of tea, but that's more a personal taste thing, because objectively Iesher has a great voice - hell, she got the coaches on their feet with her spectacular runs. Sure, it all went a little 'Blind Date' when Kylie pitched to her - "I'm loving your little Whitney Houston vibe here - 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody'. If you want to dance with me, come on Team Kylie" - but as soon as Will announced he has a cousin with Iesher's name, it was basically game over (you don't ignore it when Will gets the family members involved.) So Iesher went with Will, who seemed very pleased indeed (and then made everyone giggle with his cheeky: "My dad's name is Casper, because he's a ghost. I don't know him.")

4. Georgia

Song: 'Hallelujah I Love Him So' / Coach: Sir Tom Jones

Look, we know how shows like this work. We know that Georgia was told to mention her "cousin Adele" at every opportunity - even when she was saying that she doesn't want to be known for being related to Adele. Still, luckily we were quite impressed with Georgia's version of 'Hallelujah I Love Him So'. We really weren't sure at the start, and actually it was slightly 'off' throughout, but her potential shone through and overall we were quite taken with her. Tom turned at the last second, which is probably just as well - it would have been a shame to lose Georgia now. Even if we can't quite fathom that she really is 27 years old... (Plus, Tom got to do some Ray Charles namedropping so we're sure he was happy about that.)

5. Vicky Jones

Song: 'Bed of Roses' / Coach: Sir Tom Jones

We actually really liked Vicky as a person - and didn't really mind the whole 'McFly Danny is my brother' thing, for some reason. Partly, we think, it was because Vicky emphasised how her brother is just her brother - and didn't even invite him to the audition! But to be honest, Vicky's take on 'Bed of Roses' just didn't grab us. We think it might have been nerves, so we're hoping that she'll be able to blossom a bit more in the weeks to come. And she's got Sir Tom Jones to help her do just that...

6. Celestine

Song: 'All This Love That I'm Giving' / Coach: Sir Tom Jones

Oh, Celestine. Trust us, it's not your fault that you're down here this week - but we hardly saw you. Blame it on The Voice, who stuck you in as part of a 'Sir Tom loves the ladies' package. What we did see of your rich, soulful voice, we really rated - and Sir Tom liked the fact that you did "all the runs with ease". We'll eagerly await the battles, where we can really see what you're made of, but for now, we just don't feel like we know you.

And the ones who didn't make it...

The Voice mixed things up this week, as the first act on our screens, Andy Otley, failed to make it through. He seemed like a very nice, charming young man, and it was good to hear him take on an upbeat Olly Murs song and have a bit of a dance. He had a good pop voice, but never quite pushed it to the next level. The coaches basically told him it was too safe, which is a little fair - though Andy seemed like a very personable guy and had fun trying to sell Kylie a house ("I live next door.") He got her to say "neighbours", so well done Andy.

Paul Black auditions for The Voice

Paul Black was next to get a no, which is kind of understandable - while he had the shock factor of being a rocker tattoo artist with an enjoyably smooth jazz voice, his actual singing was only good, not great, and we got the coaches' decision. Still, Will made us giggle with his chair dancing, and it gave Tom a chance to do some namedropping ("Frank Sinatra gave me some advice...")

Then things got a little bit wacky with Si Genaro, a true classic British eccentric who gave us his rendition of his first song - the 'Pigeon Song' - and then went into his blind audition for a harmonica and beatboxing-infused take on 'Down Under'. Si would have been mercilessly ripped apart on The X Factor, but it was nice to see The Voice laughing with him, not at him, and the coaches giving actual advice. We maybe spent a little too long with Si - who, after failing to make it through, performed his song 'Chicken Train'. Still, we were genuinely moved by his younger brother's pride in him - he got all teary talking about how impressed he is with Si's fearlessness. Very sweet.

Nathan Kobierowski auditions for The Voice

The other "no"s came for Frankie Cocozza-haired Nathan Kobierowski, fantastically named John Rush and Muse-crooner Jeff Anderson, who were all clearly intended for Ricky - who failed to turn for any of them. Some of this was a shame - all three of them were talented, and actually we think it would have been fine for all three to go through (especially Jeff who - despite singing the ridiculous 'Uprising' - showcased the brilliant rock voice he had, and made Will "seethe" with Ricky.) But at the same time, it makes sense for Ricky to show that he's not just an indie-rock devotee.

So after all that, Tom's in the lead with six acts - Vicky, Georgia, Celestine, Leverne, Sally and Mairead (and seems very pleased to have an all-female team). Will has four - Iesher, Anna, Sophie and Jermain - as does Ricky - Myles, Christina, Beth and Kelsey-Beth. And Kylie might not have picked up anyone this time around, but she still has four: Lee, Leo, Jamie and Jimmy. But who's next? We'll find out next week...
