The Peacock Network's chairman Robert Greenblatt announced at the TCA press tour today (January 19) that Matt Arnold and Josh Friedman will produce the ten-part Emerald City.
Emerald City has been described by NBC as a "dramatic and modern re-imagining of the tales that include lethal warriors, competing kingdoms, and the infamous wizard as we've never seen him before".
Greenblatt added that the show will see 20-year-old Dorothy dropped into a land "that's definitely not her grandmother's Oz", where "a lot of new characters" will be introduced.
Emerald City will be based on the 14 books in Baum's Oz series.
NBC has also commissioned a new eight-hour miniseries titled The Slap, which is about the contentious legal battle that develops after a child is slapped by an adult at a family party.
A new comedy pilot from Amy Poehler and Happy Endings' Jon Fener and Josh Bycel will star Natasha Lyonne as a woman trying to find her true purpose in life while working with the elderly.
The network previously commissioned a new spy drama starring Katherine Heigl, ordered a seventh season of Parks and Recreation, and revealed Jay Leno's final Tonight Show guests.
