Set in India, the movie had a veteran British cast including Dame Judi Dench , Dev Patel, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Penelope Wilton, Diana Hardcastle, Tena Desae and Lillete Dubey.

Fox Searchlight announced that Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2 will debut on March 6, 2015.
Filming on the sequel began in January, with Richard Gere joining the cast.
Gere's character will reportedly have a romantic plotline with Lilette Dubey's Mrs Kapoor.
