Coronation Street's Samia Ghadie 'worried viewers won't like Maria'

Coronation Street star Samia Ghadie has revealed her concerns about her upcoming storyline.

Her character Maria Connor will be left heartbroken next week after she makes a shocking discovery about partner Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou).

Maria's hopes for a happy family life are left in tatters after she walks in on her boyfriend in a compromising position with Todd Grimshaw (Bruno Langley).

The soap's producer Stuart Blackburn has hinted that Maria will be on the verge of a "mental breakdown" following the incident, but Ghadie is worried that Maria's change of character will cause viewers to dislike her.

She told The Sunday People 's Love Sunday magazine: "She's going to change a lot and she goes a bit darker. She gets bitter and causes trouble for people you wouldn't expect her to.

"I'm a bit worried people aren't going to like her. She's a bit disturbed and is craving attention. So watch this space."

Despite her worries, Ghadie recently told Digital Spy that she was excited about the storyline.

She said: "It's fantastic to have this storyline and I knew it was always heading for disaster with Marcus.

"I'm pleased with the way it's turned out, and I think it'll open a lot of avenues for Maria to explore. It's going to create a lot more drama down the line."
