TOKYO – Filipino film Shift, from Siege Ledesma, won the grand prix at the Osaka Asian Film Festival on Sunday, while Fasten Your Seatbelt, the directorial debut from Korean actor Ha Jung-woo, took the most promising talent award.
Ledesma's story of a female call center worker who falls for her gay, male supervisor, also landed a $5,000 (￥500,000) cash prize, while Ha's airborne comedy won $2,000 (￥200,000).
Jury president Eugene Domingo singled out films from the Philippines and South Korea for praise in her announcement of the prize winners.

The best actress award went to Carina Lau for her role in Bends by Hong Kong director Flora Lau.
Forever Love, a romantic comedy from Taiwan directed by Toyoharu Kitamura and Li-shiou Shiao, won a $10,000 (￥1 million) contract from Asahi Broadcasting Corp for local TV rights.
The audience award also went to Taiwan, won by Umin Boya's big-budget baseball film Kano. The true story of a Taiwanese team that made it to the finals of Japan's storied Koshien high school baseball finals in 1931, when the country was under Japanese imperial rule, was the opening film of the festival.
