The page is run by News Corp's social news-focused company Storyful, which works to verify stories it discovers via social media.
FB Newswire will be updated in real-time with the latest stories and will include user-generated photos, videos and status updates posted by people on the front line of major events.
With more than one billion users, Facebook is hoping to boost people's ability to "discover, explore and participate in news-making events".
"Storyful's discovery technology and expert journalists will bring a new layer of verification, expert curation and community engagement to content on [Facebook]," Storyful managing editor Aine Kerr said.
News Corp chief executive Robert Thomson added: "Storyful is bringing traditional journalistic values to contemporary video, separating the substantial from the superficial and the real from the fake. It has set a benchmark for the authentication of user-generated content and is becoming increasingly adept at monetising that content."
Facebook's director of news and global media partnerships Andy Mitchell said that the service is not intended to rival Twitter's success in spreading news, but complement it.
"What we're trying to do is make sure journalists have as many choices [and] first-person content as possible so they can tell the most complete story they can," he said.
Although FB Newswire is aimed at journalists, anyone can like the page now.
