Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan host amfAR gala in Cannes

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have attended the amfAR Gala.

An annual highlight of the Cannes Film Festival, this year's event was hosted by the Indian power couple.

Presenting the charity auction, Abhishek said: "Every time we sell an auction lot, we get a few steps closer to reaching our goal."

Aishwarya, who has been winning praise from all quarters for her star turns on the red carpet, opted for a shimmering fawn coloured Armani Prive gown for the glamourous night, while Abhishek wore a traditional Nehru suit.

Among the Hollywood A list attending the charity auction and dinner were Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Milla Jovovich, Heidi Klum, Sharon Stone, John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Justin Bieber and Harvey Weinstein.

amfAR is one of the world's leading nonprofit organisations dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education, and the advocacy of sound AIDS-related public policy.

Aishwarya, who makes her 14th appearance at the festival as an ambassador for L'Oreal Paris, has been showcasing the cosmetic brand's new make-up line L'Or Lumière.
