The cartoonist has taken the Myriad Editions prize with For the Love of God, Marie!.
The prize was announced at an event at the British Library as part of the Comics Unmasked exhibition.
"This is joyous, off-the-wall, accomplished story-telling and art by a cartoonist who just loves her chosen form," FPI quotes Myriad Creative Director Corinne Pearlman as saying.
"And what a wonderfully wacky title: For the Love of God, Marie!."
The competition was judge by novelist Meg Rosoff, critic and blogger Andy Oliver, cartoonists Woodrow Phoenix and Nicola Streeten and Pearlman.
Sack, Crack & Back (& Brain)
Francesca Cassavati's Panic Attacks, Jessica Martin's Elsie Harris Picture Palace, Henny Beaumont's Hole in the Heart, Robert Wells's Sack, Crack & Back (& Brain) and Wallis Eates's Mumoirs were also nominated for the award.
The biennial competition is open to previously unpublished cartoonists. Winners receive a £1,000 prize and a week-long retreat in a studio in France, as well as the opportunity to develop their work with Myriad.
2012's winner was Gareth Brookes's The Black Project.
Sarson is also the creator of the Cafe Suada webcomic.
