In the controversial mobile phone recording from Peru obtained by the Daily Mail , Zayn Malik is seen smoking what appears to be marijuana and talks to Tomlinson about the band's official books in comparison with Kid Rock's.
"His book is about twice the size, hardback, black, simple writing, the whole thing just filled with sick pictures and just a caption from each place," Malik says.
"No bulls**t, no like, 'My favourite colour's blue', 'My favourite colour's red', 'If I was invisible for a day I'd pinch people's bums'. None of that, Literally just all sick pictures, and it looks bad."
He added: "He's basically putting the pictures forward for next year's book.
"Every time you're looking at it you think, 'F**k, I've never seen that picture, that's a bad photo'. Full of sick s**t instead of boring crap."
Tomlinson said: "Yeah, I know, same old [phrase entirely bleeped out by the Daily Mail] that I'm sure the fans are bored of reading."
Malik agreed: "They want to know what we're up to now, man..."

He continued of Kid Rock's book: "He's smoking a jay in one of the pictures, Louis, and he's got a gold ring on his middle finger which is a bit weird, but aside from that he's sticking his middle finger up with a jay in his mouth, and that's one of the pictures."
Tomlinson is also alleged to have used a shortened form of the word "n***er" on the tape, when he says "It's green only, nig" or "It's green only, Nick", but again his words are unclear.
In response to the video, human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell said: "For black or gay kids to hear these terms bandied about can be really hurtful.
"They should not be using words that have prejudiced connotations. It's really important for popstars to avoid language that is racist or homophobic. Their words have influence and impact."
Head of education at Stonewall, Luke Tryl, added: "Homophobic language is endemic in Britain's schools and these insults can have a devastating impact on the self-esteem of gay young people."
Chairman of the Commons culture, media and sport select committee John Whittingdale said: "They are adored by many people and they have a responsibility to set an example.
"People look up to them and admire them. If they have said this, they should make it clear that they accept they said it. They have got to understand that use of terms like this is very offensive to people."
