Smith's previous number ones include Money On My Mind and La La La, his collaboration with producer Naughty Boy.
'Waves' by Mr Probz stays at number two while Fuse ODG gets his highest charting UK single with 'Dangerous Love', which features Sean Paul, at number three.
Last week's number one 'I Will Never Let You Down' by Rita Ora slides down to number four, while 'Extraordinary' by Clean Bandit (featuring Sharna Bass) enters the chart at number five.
Coldplay's new release 'A Sky Full Of Stars' enters the chart at number 15, while Afrojack's 'Ten Feet Away' places at number 20.
Little Mix's 'Salute' makes its Top 40 chart debut at number 35 a week before its June 1 release date, while Nicki Minaj's 'Pills N Potions' enters at 38 after being on sale for just 48 hours.
German/Russian DJ and producer Zedd climbs 25 places to number 40 with 'Clarity', which also features Foxes.
