Daddy's Home will star Ferrell as a mild-mannered radio executive who struggles to become the best stepdad that he can.
His attempts are derailed by the arrival of the children's obnoxious real father (Wahlberg), sparking a contest for their affection.
Etan Cohen was previously attached to direct with Vince Vaughn opposite Ferrell before the project fell apart last year.
Wahlberg will next be seen in Transformers: Age of Extinction and Rupert Wyatt crime thriller The Gambler .
Daddy's Home will begin shooting in the autumn.
