PS Vita's future 'unclear outside of Japan', says Sony boss

Sony Computer Entertainment head Andrew House has admitted that the PS Vita's future is uncertain outside of Japan.

The company executive insisted that the handheld will remain a "triple-A machine" in the Asian territory, but hinted that its primary role elsewhere may be for PlayStation 4 streaming and indie games.

"I certainly think you'll still see Vita as a triple-A machine in Japan where it has a different function with the console dynamic of the marketplace," House told IGN . "That for me is a given.

"It's hard to say in terms of the other markets. I think remote play is still in its nascent stages, I think we need to have better understanding. We know a lot of players are embracing it and using it and seem to like the experience a lot, but necessarily that changes the dynamic."

Although the Vita has struggled in some markets, Sony insists that the latest slim version of the system has seen "healthy consumer demand".

However, there are signs that PS4 sales have begun to slow in Japan, with the system selling just 500 more units than the PS3 last week.
