Happy New Year gets anti-drinking warning from censor board

Shah Rukh Khan 's Happy New Year is the first Bollywood film to be forced to display an anti-alcohol warning.

In a new ruling, India's Central Board of Film Certification demands that movies showing alcohol consumption now carry a statutory warning.

All future Bollywood projects that include scenes with alcohol will be required to include a written warning in English and in Hindi.

Films screening at cinemas in India were earlier only required to display a warning about the dangers of tobacco when characters were shown smoking.

Woody Allen previously blocked the release of Blue Jasmine in India as he would not allow censors to include an anti-tobacco alert in two scenes that showed characters smoking.

Industry figures including Mahesh Bhatt, Tanuj Garg, Rajkumar Santoshi and Anurag Kashyap have all criticised the new law.
