Mercury Prize: East India Youth, Young Fathers have biggest Spotify boost

East India Youth and Young Fathers have seen the biggest peak in streams in the run-up to tomorrow's Mercury Prize announcement.

Both artists have seen a peak of over 1,000% in streams of their nominated albums since the shortlist was revealed seven weeks ago, compared to their average prior to nomination.

East India Youth's Total Strife Forever saw a peak increase of 1,045%, while Young Fathers' Dead had a peak increase of 1,040%, according to data released by Spotify on Tuesday (October 28).


Kate Tempest and Anna Calvi also saw dramatically increased percentages, with a 492% peak for Calvi's second Mercury-nominated album One Breath and 900% peak for Tempest's debut Everybody Down.

FKA twigs , who is favourite for the prize with some bookmakers, saw a peak in streams of 33% for her record LP1.

The full list of nominees (by peak in streams since September 10) is as follows:


1. East India Youth - Total Strife Forever: 1,045% peak in streams

2. Young Fathers - Dead: 1,040% peak in streams

3. Kate Tempest - Everybody Down: 900% peak in streams

4. Anna Calvi - One Breath: 492% peak in streams

5. Polar Bear - In Each and Every One: 337% peak in streams

6. Nick Mulvey - First Mind: 73% peak in streams

7. GoGo Penguin - v2.0: 69% peak in streams

8. Royal Blood - Royal Blood : 66% peak in streams

9. Damon Albarn - Everyday Robots : 65% peak in streams

10. Jungle - Jungle: 39% peak in streams

11. Bombay Bicycle Club - So Long, See You Tomorrow : 35% peak in streams

12. FKA twigs - LP1: 33% peak in streams

Spotify also compared the change in streams for each artist across two different time periods - the seven days before nomination on September 10, and the seven days to October 28 - with findings as follows:


1. Polar Bear - In Each and Every One: +431%

2. GoGo Penguin - v2.0: +372%

3. Kate Tempest - Everybody Down: +140%

4. Young Fathers - Dead: +94%

5. Nick Mulvey - First Mind: +73%

6. East India Youth - Total Strife Forever: +46%

7. Anna Calvi - One Breath: +34%

8. Damon Albarn - Everyday Robots: +21%

9. Jungle - Jungle: +18%

10= Bombay Bicycle Club - So Long, See You Tomorrow: No change

10= FKA twigs - LP1: No change

10= Royal Blood - Royal Blood: No change
