Welcome Back, Kotter's Marcia Strassman dies, aged 66

Welcome Back, Kotter star Marcia Strassman has died, aged 66.

Marcia's sister Julie has confirmed that the actress passed away in Los Angeles from breast cancer after a seven-year battle.

Julie said in a statement to Deadline : "She was the funniest, smartest person I ever met.

"And talented. She knew everything. Now I won't be able to call her and ask her questions."


The actress is survived by a daughter named Lizzie Collector.


Strassman began her career as a singer, but reached new heights when she was cast as Gabe Kaplan's on-screen wife in the hit sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter.


She went on to play level-headed Julie Kotter from 1975 to 1979.




Strassman worked frequently through the 1980s, but once again became a fixture in the public eye through her role as Diane Szalinski in the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids films.


In more recent years, Strassman made recurring appearances in Third Watch and the television version of Tremors.
