After scoring a huge buzz from his music late last decade, Charles Hamilton has earned more notoriety for surprising Internet moments in recent years. There was that time he got punched in the face by a female during a rap battle; a and his “supernatural” explanation to MTV News of his J. Cole diss track; and, more recently, claims that “Drake is an alien.”
But it looks like he’s now intent on changing that, and getting people’s focus back to his music.
On Monday, the Harlem-raised MC dropped “Correct,” a brief yet thoughtful song on his newly-launched Soundcloud page, which comes just days after his return to social media following a disappearance last year, as well as a relaunched official site. In addition, he has signed with Turn First Records, the same management company that works with Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora, as pointed out by Vibe .
Last week, at the iHeart Media Summit, Charles posted a photo of himself and Rita. They also apparently have a song together, called “NY Raining,” according to producer Ray Angry.
What’s next from the 27-year-old? Will he be able to recapture the excitement he engendered a half decade ago? We’ll have to wait and see — but if the recent moves are any sign, we may not have to wait that long.
