No, this wasn’t a study based on “Fifty Shades of Grey” advance ticket sales or number of streams of Rihanna’s “S&M.” It’s a new survey by Kink University, a real entity that promotes the learning of “fun, safe, and effective skills related to consensual kink.”
The organization claims that it’s uncovered the 10 kinkiest cities in the U.S. as part of the 2015 Kink State of the Union, also a real thing that exists. And the winner is…
Portland, Oregon.
Yes, Portland is apparently the country’s kinkiest city. The survey examined four metrics of BDSM, fetish and local polyamorous communities — including size of the kink-identified population relative to the city’s population — and adult entertainment purchases, Huffington Post reports.
Based on the findings, Portland has the highest per capita number of kink-identified citizens. In fact, about 4% of the city’s residents belong to a kinky social networking site. San Francisco came in second, and a spokesperson for Kink University says that rising housing costs in Frisco may have pushed the kink community northward, explaining Portland’s surge to the top of the list.
