The film is based on the Bhanwari Devi sex scandal, with Sherawat cast in the role of the controversial politician.
The actress told IANS : "This happens only few times in a career of an actor, when they are offered roles which are glamorous as well as performance-oriented. Dirty Politics is a mixture of both.
"I'm really hoping that after this movie, my fans like it, critics like it, serious directors take a note of it and then offer me performance-oriented parts and not only glamour-oriented parts," she added.
Sherawat, who won a Best Actress award for her performance in the erotic thriller Murder, earlier claimed that directors don't take her seriously because of her glamorous image.
The film has been at the centre of controversy after a complaint was filed accusing the producers of the movie, lead actress Mallika Sherawat and director KC Bokadia of insulting the nation's honour, after a poster was released depicting the actress draped in the colours of the Indian national flag.
Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Jackie Shroff, Govind Namdev, Ashutosh Rana and Rajpal Yadav also star in the movie.
Dirty Politics is scheduled for release on February 13.
