Sia’s new “Fifty Shades of Grey” song is smoother than silk. It’s a really good whiskey, or milk chocolate, or that swirly caramel that you see pouring down on Milky Way commercials.
The Aussie singer released “Salted Wound” on Tuesday (Jan. 27), and while the title leads you to think the track may be harsh and painful (or delicious, if you add the “Salted” part to the caramel I was just talking about), Sia sings sensually, as if you’re sliding into Christian Grey’s silky sheets.
“Take her hand and don’t let go,” Sia sings in the winding ballad, although, due to a case of Ariana Grande-esque enunciation, we can’t really make out much else. There’s a husky undertone amid the smoothness, and some of the backing vocals recall Tori Amos. There are all sorts of strings in there to hypnotize you: harps, violin, acoustic guitar, cello. Relax, give in and indulge.
Sia joins Beyoncé, The Weeknd and Ellie Goulding on the “Fifty Shades of Grey” soundtrack.
