Disney has announced that it is to introduce its first Latina princess.
In a Disney blog post, the 16-year-old princess is described as a "bold, caring, funny and clever ascendant to the throne in the fairytale kingdom of Avalor".

Princess Elena will appear in Sofia the First in 2016, before being handed her own spinoff series with Disney Junior.
In a Disney blog post, the 16-year-old princess is described as a "bold, caring, funny and clever ascendant to the throne in the fairytale kingdom of Avalor".
Nancy Kanter, the executive vice president of Disney Junior Worldwide, said: "What excites us most is the chance to use distinctive animation and visual design to tell wonderful stories influenced by culture and traditions that are familiar to the worldwide population of Hispanic and Latino families and reflect the interests and aspirations of all children as told through a classic fairy tale."
Disney introduced its first black princess Tiana in 2009's The Princess and the Frog .
Princess Elena will be voiced by Aimee Carrero , who has appeared in Young & Hungry and Level Up.
