It’s time to dance, dance and celebrate because Fall Out Boy is making musical history. The three-time VMA winners will be the first-ever inductees into the “Hall of Wood” at this year’s mtvU Woodie Awards.
The dudes are the perfect people to usher in this new tradition, which celebrates artists who have used the mtvU Woodie Awards to skyrocket their careers, all while staying true to themselves and their fans.
Since their 2004 win for Streaming Woodie for “Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy” at the very first ceremony, Fall Out Boy has garnered major love from around the globe. Their latest album, American Beauty/American Psycho, debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and peaked at #1 in 22 countries. Through it all, they’ve remained humble, hungry and loyal to their fans. That’s the true spirit of the Woodies for you, folks.
It gets even better: The boys will also be making their debut as Woodies performers, playing all your faves. We’re sure we’ll remember it for “Centuries.”
Fall Out Boy truly represents what the Woodies are all about — and we have to say, their induction into the Hall of Wood comes as no surprise. We mean that literally — the signs of this happening have been there all along. Let’s take a look at the all the ways Fall Out Boy was basically destined for Hall of Wood Fame:
1. Their lead singer’s name = major foreshadowing.

Patrick. Stump. How have we not seen this earlier? Stump isn’t just the last name of Fall Out Boy’s frontman, it’s also what you call the remaining part of a tree that’s been cut down. And as we all know, trees are where wood comes from. Fall Out Boy –> Patrick Stump –> Stump –> Tree –> Wood –> Woodies. It’s been right under our noses THE WHOLE TIME.
2. They had a whole album inspired by a tree.

FOB’s beloved, 2005 album, From Under The Cork Tree, is a glaringly obvious clue that the dudes were destined for Woodies stardom — and not just because it went double-platinum. They could have called the album anything, but the group chose a tree. Tree = wood = Woodies, naturally.
3. Their music videos are full of trees. Coincidence? We think not.

4. For a little while, the band was featured on a popular little show called ‘One TREE Hill.’

Emphasis on the TREE.
5. Finally, the most deeply buried clue of all.

If you rearrange the letters in FOB bassist Peter Wentz’s name, you’ll see it’s actually an anagram for W.N. Pet Treez. CASE. CLOSED.
Thanks for the memories, Fall Out Boy. We always knew you “wood” make mtvU history.
