Diplo learned a very valuable lesson the hard way: Don’t mess with the Swifties.
Back in November, the EDM producer tweeted about starting a Kickstarter to get Taylor Swift a “booty.”
It didn’t take long for that comment to unleash the wrath of Taylor’s fans, a following that Diplo recently called an “army that’s worse than North Korea.”
“All I know is, don’t ever get into a feud with Taylor Swift,” he told British GQ Style . “She has, like, 50 million people that will die for her. You can’t step into that arena. That was something I was never prepared for. … One of the biggest mistakes of my career was definitely f–king with her.”
But it wasn’t just Taylor’s fans who came to her defense. The 1989 singer’s BFF Lorde did too, suggesting Diplo do something about his “tiny penis”.
Taylor and Diplo seem to have put their differences behind them, though, since the pair snapped a pic together at the Grammys last month. And Diplo’s mean-tweeting days seem to be a thing of the past, a decision Taylor’s fans made for him.
“It sucks for me, because now I have to not be as crazy as I am on the Internet,” he told GQ last month. “Which totally sucks, because it’s not going to be fun anymore. But the repercussions are really bad. Like, Taylor Swift fans are really crazy. They threatened to murder me and stuff. It’s really bizarre, and disgusting. They’re the worst people in the world. And I’m a pretty big fan.”
