Drake Gives The Gift Of Music To A Philadelphia High School

If you’re reading this, it’s not too late to become a Drake fan all over again.

According to the Huffington Post , the “6 God” MC donated $75,000 to assist Philadelphia’s Strawberry Mansion High School with its goal to create a recording studio.

The OVO’s head owl got involved with the project after seeing an ABC News report on challenges the students face and principal Linda Cliatt-Wayman’s efforts to curb the troubled school’s violence and improve its academic standing.

“This is about you,” Drake said during a private pre-concert gathering of members of the school community back in October 2013. “This is about your principal. This is about your future. I love you. I care about you. I want to see you succeed.”

The studio, which was gifted with new keyboards, acoustical accessories and other music equipment, was completed over the summer thanks to help from members of Drizzy’s crew.

But there was a problem.

Because of budget issues and the school’s reputation for violence, it was difficult for Cliatt-Wayman to find an instructor. In fact, the new gear remained untouched until part-time music teacher Ben Diamond was hired last month to start teaching a course in studio production.

Still, students weren’t signing up until Cliatt-Wayman debuted a song recorded in the facility on the school’s public address system.

That, as they say, was music to their ears. Some 50 students signed up for the class after realizing that they actually did receive the equipment they were promised.

“You have to prove everything to them,” Cliatt-Wayman said. “So many people disappoint them.”

Those people aren’t Drake.

Guys, remember when Drake was in high school? Those were the days.
