Justin Bieber may have gotten the “ass-whopping” he deserved during his Comedy Central Roast, but when all the jokes were done, the pop star took some time to apologize for, well, being himself.
“I turned a lot of people off over the past few years, but I know I can still turn out good music and turn everything all around,” he said. “I’ve lost some of my best qualities. For that, I am sorry. I’m looking forward to being someone who you guys can all look at and be proud of.”
The “Confident” singer further elaborated on why he decided to take that moment to apologize to his fans when he made an appearance on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
“I was just talking about it being a new chapter for me and, basically, saying that I’m sorry for the stuff that I’ve done,” he told Ellen. “And it’s not like I’m searching for people’s approval, but I just want people to know that that’s not me and I was doing stuff that wasn’t me. A lot of times we pretend so that we can fit in and then we end up looking like a douche bag and that was kind of me.”
During the roast hosted by Kevin Hart — and featuring Snoop Dogg, Ludacris and Martha Stewart to name a few — roasters made fun of Justin’s troubled past, including his run-ins with the law and that whole egg-throwing incident. The pop star looked back on those times with the TV host.
“I didn’t know how to handle it; it went to my head,” Justin said of gaining fame at such a young age. “And I had to let people pull me down for me to see the truth and to see how much of a jerk I was being and now I just want people to know that this is me. I’m just a genuine person who has fun, and I wasn’t trying to be a jerk.”
Be sure to catch Justin’s roast when it airs on Comedy Central Monday, March 30 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
