Shabana Azmi recently stated that songwriters and performers should consider the suitability of so-called item songs, which often use sexually provocative lyrics which can be heard by young children.
Commenting on the issue in an interview with Digital Spy, the 'Baby Doll' singer said: "At some level I agree you have to be careful what kind of songs you take on because the youth, the children do copy what you sing.
"But at the same time we keep in mind the masses when we make an item song and then you have censor boards who go through everything and make sure what you are putting through is allowed."
Kapoor also commented on the growing trend for actors to sing their own songs in the movies. Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra are among several actors who have chosen to record the songs in their own movies.
"Of course good luck to them, but I don't personally think all of them work," said the British singer. "Some of them work, but I think they do it more for fun. Most of the songs actors perform don't become big hits.
"If you're just doing it for fun it's a different ballgame altogether. You have people using melodine and your voice can be altered but it's never going to touch a person. If everyone could sing there would be amazing singers everywhere but it's not easy to sing well."
Kapoor recently won a Filmfare award for Best Female Playback for the song 'Baby Doll', and has propelled herself to the top of the industry in the space of a year since her first release 'Jugni Ji' with Dr Zeus.
Her most recent release is 'Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan' from Roy. Watch the video below:
