Spider-Man: Cabin in the Woods' Drew Goddard to direct new film?

Cabin in the Woods filmmaker Drew Goddard is reportedly the top candidate to write and direct the next Spider-Man movie for Sony and Marvel Studios.

Goddard had originally been tipped to direct spinoff Sinister Six , even leaving Netflix's Daredevil to focus on the sequel.

Spider-Man joins Marvel: Who could replace Andrew Garfield?

The director will now be re-assigned to re-launch the Spider-Man franchise with a new film unconnected to Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man series, according to Latino Review .


Goddard is a veteran of Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon's television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, in addition to writing Cloverfield and World War Z .


Spider-Man's next solo outing has been dated for July 28, 2017, in addition to the character appearing in upcoming Marvel Studios movies.

The next Spider-Man is expected to be much younger than former franchise star Andrew Garfield.

Josh Hutcherson and Donald Glover have both expressed interest in taking the role, although neither are in formal negotiations.
