While these days we know Lauren Conrad as an incredibly successful businesswoman, hair inspiration, and magazine cover veteran—it wasn’t always that way. In 2006, Lauren covered Teen Vogue, making the transition from intern—who spent most of her time in the fashion closet—to cover girl.
Because I barely ever throw away anything I buy, I recently unearthed the first issue of Teen Vogue she ever covered in my bedroom and am here to share it with you, the good people of the internet.

There are a few things to take away from this cover, but, the main thing, IMHO, is that when this issue came out in June of 2006, we didn’t even know the greatness that was The Hills yet. Also, Lauren was still very into straight hair and her bangs—we didn’t know about her trademark braided bangs yet!!! We had so much to learn—so young, so naive.

Inside, LC takes us through a day in the life of a Teen Vogue intern, which involves taking photos of models, talking on the phone, wearing bermuda-length jorts, and ordering “literally 100 pairs of skinny jeans” for a shoot—hey, it was 2006.

Later, Lauren talks about how she’s been focusing on fashion which, obviously, paid off in the form of not one, but TWO clothing lines to her name. She also reveals some of the major ~drama~ we could come to expect from The Hills, like a model not showing up for a fashion show.
So, yeah, we’ve all come a long way since 2006, Lauren included—she not only wears flip-flops now (see her 5:30 P.M. update above), she designed some for her line at Kohl’s.
