Fatone denied rumours of a performance earlier this week, but was said to have grinned as he told reporters that he wouldn't be attending the ceremony.
However, his father Joseph Fatone told Radar Online : "They're doing a performance. I think it's exciting.
"I couldn't even say why he's doing it though. Why, at this point in his life. Now he's his own man.
"But it's more to the fact that MTV has made them all somewhat of stars, and also made Justin a star."

Fatone's father added that he has no idea about what the performance will entail but suggested that everyone watches MTV on Sunday.
The group also appear to have joined Twitter ahead of their reunion, tweeting from the new account: "Mic check, mic check one.. two... is this thing on?!"
It is thought that the performance will feature a medley of *NSYNC's most famous hits before Timberlake performs his latest hit 'Take Back the Night'.
MTV airs its annual awards show on Sunday, August 25 from 9pm ET. The awards will air on MTV UK on Monday, August 26 at 8pm.
