Lorna Simpson's time in the competition came to an end following a sing-off with Shelley Smith . The result means that Sharon Osbourne has already lost one of the three contestants from her Overs category.
Smith became the series' first 'Flash Vote' nominee during Saturday's (October 12) 1980s-themed show.
Osbourne immediately abstained from voting, declining to choose between her two acts. Louis Walsh elected to send home Simpson, while Barlow sent home Smith, giving Scherzinger the casting vote. She chose to send Simpson home.
All three hailed the quality of the sing-off performances, with Barlow advising Smith that song choice is "key" for her.
Smith performed 'One Night Only' by former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson as her 'save me' song, while Simpson's chosen track for the sing-off was Faith Hill's 'There You'll Be' from the soundtrack to Pearl Harbor.
Immediately following her elimination, Simpson told host Dermot O'Leary: "I think my favourite memory of the competition was getting to the Boot Camp stage, because I never thought I'd even get that far.
"It just goes to show that when you believe in your dreams they really do happen."
Speaking to The Xtra Factor's Caroline Flack, the 26-year-old business student from south London added: "I'm a bit shocked. It feels as surreal as it did when I even got this far, but I'm going to use it as my stepping stone and I'm definitely going to grow from this.
"I just thank everyone at X Factor for giving me that chance."
Meanwhile, mentor Sharon Osbourne said: "It's crushing for Lorna. It's the worst thing to come into this competition and be the first one to go. I feel bad for her, she's worked very hard."
Sunday's (October 13) first live results show of the year saw live performances from Ellie Goulding and Cher, while the finalists came together for a joint rendition of Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' at the start of the programme.
The X Factor continues next Saturday (October 19) at 8pm on ITV with a 'Love and Heartbreak' theme. Katy Perry and Robin Thicke will perform on Sunday's (October 20) results show.
