Below we round up our top five performances from the live shows, and invite you to vote for your own favourite in our poll.
Tamera Foster - 'Ain't Nobody'
We're not quite sure what Sharon thinks is so "exotic" about Tamera, but she's assured, sexy and - helped out by the best song of the evening - was the most professional. Less poe-tential, but the most ready-made talent on week one.
Rough Copy - 'In The Air Tonight'
Nicole was convinced that these guys are the best band she's ever seen on The X Factor. At this early stage, we'd pitch them above Bad Lashes and below Miss Frank, but we very much enjoyed their arrangement of a Phil Collins classic, which is probably best known to Nicholas 'Spandex Belly' Macdonald as "that song from the chocolate advert".
Sam Bailey - 'The Power Of Love'
We don't have Simon Cowell whinnying on about this being "a singing competition" any more (when it suited him, of course), but The Voice of the first live show was obviously Sam. She was singing our third-favourite '80s song called 'The Power of Love', but still won us over.
Abi Alton - 'Livin' On A Prayer'
We're not going to lie. We didn't much like this. Can Abi play the piano? Yes. Can she sing? Of course. But we are utterly sick to death of the John Lewis-ifcaition of music with tinkly tonkly piano. That said, in the absence of any joke acts, anything that sticks in the memory will likely ensure passage to the next week, and we want to see her mix it up a bit in the live shows to come.
Kingsland Road - 'I'm Your Man'
Lorna almost made our top five for the sexy oiled-up topless men alone, but these guys were slick, to-the-point, and had the reassuring air of One Direction + The Wanted. And the stylists will have all manner of fun with that ridiculous hair should the boys stick around long enough.
