"American Horror Story: Coven" broke ratings records for the FX drama. "Coven" put 5.5 million viewers under its spell with the Wednesday, Oct. 9 premiere.
"Coven" had 3.87 million adults in the 18-49 demo -- a 3.0 rating -- and 2.34 million adults in the 18-34 demo -- a 3.5 rating.
Last season's incarnation, "American Horror Story: Asylum," had a premiere audience of 3.9 million viewers and a 2.2 rating.
"American Horror Story: Coven" stars Jessica Lange as Fiona, the supreme witch of her time. Sarah Paulson plays Lange's daughter, the head of a school for witches. Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Lily Rabe, Emma Roberts, Frances Conroy, Evan Peters, Denis O'Hare and Gabourey Sidibe also co-star.
