"Community" will return for its fifth season in January, NBC announced Friday.


The cult-favorite comedy will premiere with back-to-back episodes on Thursday, Jan. 2 beginning at 8 p.m. ET, before settling into its regular Thursday at 8 p.m. timeslot.


Dan Harmon, the show's creator and former showrunner, returns to helm "Community" this season after being fired for the comedy's fourth season.


NBC also announced that it had canceled "Ironside" and "Welcome To The Family."


NBC's "Chicago Fire" spinoff "Chicago P.D." will debut Wednesday, January 8 at 10 p.m. ET.
