Chris Chibnall described Broadchurch as his "baby"

Chibnall has penned the first episode of the remake, and will also serve as executive producer on the Fox series.

He told the Radio Times : "They were interested in doing an American version, and what I didn't want to do was hand it over and have no involvement because it's very personal to me. It's absolutely my baby.

"I wrote it on spec for myself with no company, so I wasn't just going to hand it over and run."

Gracepoint - which is expected to air in late 2014 or early 2015 - will star original cast member David Tennant, Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn and Jacki Weaver.

Fox boss Kevin Reilly recently defended the decision to remake Broadchurch , saying that Gracepoint has a "different ending" to the ITV original.
