Kapoor and Bhardwaj recently started work on new project Haider, a Bollywood remake of Hamlet.
Speaking about the film, Kapoor said: "I believe in the script and have completely surrendered to Vishal sir's vision on my character and my look."
The film is third in Bhardwaj's trilogy of Shakespeare interpretations, following earlier releases Maqbool and Omkara.
"Disney UTV Studios' previous association with Vishal Bharadwaj and Shahid Kapoor delivered the cult box office hit Kaminay. The audiences have long awaited the next instalment from this team, and in Haider we believe the audiences will find the wait was well worth it," said Amar Butala, Creative Director, Studios at Disney UTV.
"With an incredible ensemble of actors including Tabu, Shraddha Kapur and Kay Kay Menon, this Shakespearean interpretation set against the backdrop of militancy in Kashmir, has some remarkable performances and great music."
Kapoor recently surprised fans by cutting his shoulder-length hair for the new role.
