Amy Acker joins Marvel's Agents of SHIELD as Coulson's lost love

Amy Acker is to play a major role on Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.

The ABC series had made multiple references to a female cellist who was once the love of Agent Coulson's life.

Acker has now been cast as that character, a talented musician named Audrey, TV Guide reports.

In an upcoming episode, Coulson (Clark Gregg) will be forced to defend Audrey from a distance when his former love - who still believes him to be dead - comes under threat from a super-powered menace.

Acker is best known for her work with Joss Whedon, exec producer on Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.

Her collaborations with Whedon have included TV series Angel and Dollhouse and his 2012 film adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing .


Marvel's Agents of SHIELD airs on ABC (Tuesdays, 8/7c) in the US and on Channel 4 (Fridays, 8pm) in the UK.
