MOSCOW -- French actor and Russian citizen Gerard Depardieu has launched a brand of luxury watches under the slogan "Proud to be Russian," the Russian wire service ITAR-TASS reported.
Depardieu, who has become Swiss watch manufacturer Cvstos' new face, was featured in a publicity photo on the company Facebook page, sporting a jacket with the Russian state symbol of a double-headed eagle and a watch with an identical golden eagle on the dial.
The Jetliner automatic Eagle of Russia watches cost between $20,000 and $30,000.

Meanwhile, Depardieu, who was granted a Russian citizenship in early 2013 under a decree by President Vladimir Putin and subsequently praised Russia and its culture, has stayed away from the limelight in Russia over the last months.
Last November, he didn't show up in Moscow for the premiere of the French-Russian co-production Rasputin, in which he played the main role of a peasant mystic who had a lot of influence on Russia’s last czar, Nikolai II.
The actor has also avoided any comments on the tensions between Russia and Ukraine over the Black Sea peninsular region of Crimea, which recently seceded from Ukraine to Russia. Incidentally, last year, the Ukrainian media reported that Depardieu had purchased vineyards near the Crimean town of Bakhchysarai.
