How to Get Billboard Cover Star Idina Menzel's Look (Video)

Turning up Idina Menzel's glam factor for Billboard's latest cover shoot was nothing but a treat for Kemal Harris of bi-coastal styling duo, Kemal & Karla, who ranks at No. 4 on The Hollywood Reporter's 25 Most Powerful Stylists List in 2014. The Broadway legend was outfitted in four luxurious looks and photographed by Miller Mobley on March 17 at Ludlow Studios in New York.

"Idina is a classic beauty, and so we drew inspiration from classic Hollywood icons and styles," Harris tells THR of styling the shoot for the March 29 issue of Billboard. "We were inspired by the Hollywood starlets of the '50s and '60s, who were often photographed in their various stages of glamour."

Therefore, the Oscar-winning voice of Frozen's ice queen Elsa and the theater star who originated roles in Rent, Wicked and -- her latest -- If/Then was dressed to the nines for even the grungiest parts of her Great White Way lifestyle: a Dolce & Gabbana bodysuit, red Moschino cardigan, fishnet stockings and Jimmy Choo heels to emulate the never-ending hours at stage rehearsals; the embellished gold two-piece ensemble by Dolce & Gabbana and the black floral Marchesa gown with Stuart Weitzman heels to evoke the luxury of "parties and black-tie affairs" that fill a lead actress' calendar throughout the spring theater season; and the light-gray Philosophy coat over an Armani blouse, Moschino pants, and La Canadienne shoes for, of course, "avoiding paparazzi on the street."

In each of the shoot's four looks, Menzel strategically sparkles while wearing very minimal jewelry by House of Lavande earrings, Chelsea de Luca and Dean Davidson, with not a single necklace or bracelet in sight. Says Harris, "Although we were inspired by 'old Hollywood,' we still wanted to keep it modern. So we didn't pile on loads of jewels, which would have felt too forced or costume-like."
