Commenting on a kiss between Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor in the trailer for Dharma Productions' 2 States, Johar said such scenes help lure in the audience.
Speaking to IANS , he said: "It's great these children of the new generation are kissing on screen. It's the new ethos, but senior actors didn't do this.
"I like to watch kissing scenes, it's wonderful. Kissing scenes help to get opening and people also like to see it, so it's all about kissing."
Abhishek Varman has wielded the megaphone for the big-screen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's best seller, which saw its trailer launched on Friday (Ferbruary 28).

"Abhishek assisted me during My Name Is Khan and I knew he has the sense of aesthetic. I went with my gut feeling," explained Johar.
2 States tells the story of a Delhi boy, played by Arjun Kapoor, who falls in love with a South Indian girl portrayed by Alia Bhatt.
