Amazon has rolled out a free software update for its first-generation Kindle Paperwhite, bringing new features to the e-reader.
Cloud Collection will organise content stored on the device into categories, while a Smart Lookup feature enables users to obtain information about a word instantly.

The download introduces a raft of additional services to the device, including FreeTime for personalised profiles for children, and the Goodreads book community.

Other features include Enhanced Bookmarks, Highlights, Notes, a Vocabulary Builder and Inline Footnotes for viewing footnotes in their entirety without turning a page.
Meanwhile, Amazon is rumoured to be planning to launch a new Paperwhite e-reader in the second quarter of 2014.
The software update for the first-generation model will be issued automatically, but can be downloaded manually via Amazon's website.
